The Good Lord Gave Us Mountains.......

We made a trip to the doctor yesterday. Ally had an appointment for a checkup on her leg. She did very well getting her x-ray. The last time we went, it was a little stressful for her since it had only been 2 weeks since her accident and she wasn't ready to be moved so much. Of course, when you watch her now, you wouldn't even know she even had a broken leg. She runs, skips, does cartwheels in the yard, swims. She is amazing.

The doctor says everything looks wonderful. You can hardly see where the break was. He also said we do not need to come back until her surgery to remove the plate (which is another story in itself). We discussed some of our concerns with the doctor and his assistant. We mentioned that we have had a lot of people ask us if she has something wrong with her bones. We have even had one person ask us if she drinks milk. We have tried really hard not to take this personally, but it is difficult sometimes to understand why people would ask that. We know in our hearts that there isn't anything more to this accident than just an accident, but we asked anyway. The doctors assured us that if she had a bone disorder, she would have had breaks before this. I pointed out that I am sure they would not have put 10 screws in her bone if there were something more wrong with her. The doctor told me that was a good point and stated she would not have healed like she has either. We are so thankful that she is doing so well.

Anyone who knows Ally knows that she isn't extremely easy to convince to try new things. She seems to have high anxiety and worries a lot about getting hurt. We have discussed this many times with her. When the doctor told her she could walk and didn't need her brace, she was not convinced and waited a little over a week before she would do without her brace. We have told her she needs to trust us and the doctors. Yet, she still has to do it on her time (with a great big push from her parents!) I had a conversation with her about a week after her surgery about how God knows what's best for us and maybe this accident happened to help her become stronger and to know how to deal with things and how to push herself to try. It seemed to calm her. Ally loves to hear about God. There is a song by Rascal Flatts that says "The Good Lord Gave Us Mountains, so we could learn how to fly." My dear Ally, this song is for you!

I know this isn't the best picture of Ally, but it is so sweet, especially after the morning we had. We started off leaving the house a little before 6 am for her appt in Indy. A took a baggy of fruit loops and some milk in case she got hungry (she not a big morning eater). We got to Spencer (after quite a detour) and Brent and I switched drivers. Well, it's a good thing we stopped when we did because Ally said she didn't feel well, I got her out for some air, and yep, she got sick. I'm kind of thinking she got motion sick. We had her wear the headphones to watch her movie, which she usually doesn't do. That and a combination of not eating made her feel sick (all that and nerves too.)

So Brent drove and I sat in the back with Ally taking extra precautions because, Mother's instinct, I knew it was going to happen again. It did. We managed to not get it on us (too much). Plus we had sanitizing wipes and they smelled so clean, it really helped. When we arrived at Riley, we stopped by the gift shop to buy a t-shirt but they were closed. We went to the appt. We got right in to x-ray and right in to the doctor. Wow. Last time we waited almost 3 hours. Once we got through x-ray, Ally was in the best mood and didn't feel sick anymore yay. So we went to get a shirt after the appt. and headed home. We planned to stop on Cloverdale to eat some lunch. Ally nodded off before we even got to Cloverdale. What a morning.
